I would not have to run many miles each day or even move at all, but I could just sit at the bottom of the ocean and let the world move around me. I would not need to take tests or write speeches in languages that I do not know how to speak because I would not have a brain of any kind so I would be content to do absolutely nothing. People would not expect me to speak to them, unless they were crazy and liked to swim to the sea floor to talk to inanimate objects, but at any rate, I would not have a mouth with which to respond. And if a fish were to come along and eat me, well, I would not care because sponges are free of any kind of feeling. They may not seem to be the most powerful creatures, but they have the entire ocean under their command; the waves not only bring them their food but help them to digest it as well. When you think about it, all of the world produces waste that becomes food for this creature, so, in a way, we are all servants to the mighty sponge; we live and die to satisfy the needs of the sponge. When it dies, this animal is not tossed aside to decay on the beach, but it is collected and cherished. When you die, will someone take home your rotting corpse and rub it on their body? I think not. I would have great satisfaction if I knew that upon my death, I was bringing a much-needed cleanliness to this filthy world in which we live.
